Why are the BIG Foundation’s projects so close to our heart?
We don’t believe in taking people’s choice away, or in working against the mined diamond industry. However, we do believe that centuries of mining have caused environmental damage, and that we can do our bit to support communities in areas that are vulnerable to mining’s impacts.
Right now, the BIG Foundation is working on a project to build nurseries at two primary schools in the Tsavo region of Kenya. More than 65% of the local population are living below the poverty line. These nurseries will give the children a safe, clean and fun environment to thrive in. This is why we are now delighted to announce that the BIG Foundation is sending two teams of volunteers to help build them.
We also believe in the BIG Foundation’s work for another reason.
The people who volunteer for these projects are often professional businesspeople who encourage friends and family to join in the experience. By attracting volunteers from across a broad social spectrum, we see the opportunities not only for the future of volunteer work on these projects, but also for tourism to the area. This also provides economic growth to the region too. After all, the BIG Foundation camp, from where the current project is being coordinated, is in an area of the most outstanding natural beauty, a habitat for some of the world’s most beautiful animals. Lucky participants may get to see elephants, cheetahs, even lions, as well as other amazing animals. Who wouldn’t want to be part of that?!
